Libertas (Lee'bertas) is an Italian word meaning freedom and is symbolized on our logo by an eagle in flight. Libertas of Sheboygan provides counseling, education, and group therapy for:

• Adolescent and Adult Substance Abuse



• Adolescent and Adult Chemical Dependency



• Family Members Affected by Alcoholism or Chemical Dependency

Treatment can be provided through the following methods:

• Adult Intensive Outpatient Program



• Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program



• Individual Counseling Sessions



• Aftercare

A primary goal of the Libertas Program is to provide thorough treatment while allowing the patient to remain active in community living. Outpatient Treatment permits the individual to fulfill an essential element of the treatment process by assuming responsibility for his or her own recovery.

The Outpatient Program begins with an interview and an assessment by an alcohol and chemical dependency counselor. If appropriate, the client is placed in the Intensive Outpatient Program for a series of group therapy sessions. In some cases additional individual counseling sessions are scheduled.

The Libertas Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Program:

• Is based upon the 12 step philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous and is medically supervised.



• Incorporates into treatment - group therapy, social interaction and education.



• For adolescents, it is offered in after school sessions, three days per week for six weeks.



• For adults, it is offered two times per week in morning sessions for ten weeks.



• Includes a family component consisting of education and group therapy for the client and family.



• Includes individual sessions as recommended by the counselor and is followed by 16 weeks of aftercare.

Planning for treatment takes into account the physical, social, educational, vocational, psychological and spiritual needs of the patient. The patient's progress is monitored in relation to the objectives of his or her treatment plan which can be revised as appropriate.
