Libertas provides chemical dependency inpatient treatment for adolescents
within the facility at 1701 Dousman Street. At any one time there are
usually between six and 12 teens in treatment at Libertas. Their ages usually
range from 13 to 17. The inpatient stay usually varies from 10 days to three weeks.
The Libertas inpatient unit is in a comfortable setting, staffed by registered nurses around the clock. The inpatient program is
voluntary and therefore unlocked.
Ordinarily outpatient treatment is a pre-requisite for the inpatient program.
This is true for the following reasons:
- Treatment should first be provided in the least restrictive setting
available Outpatient treatment allows patient and parents to focus
together on treatment issues.
- The outpatient program is excellent preparation for inpatient treatment
should that become necessary.
- The majority of insurance plans require an attempt at outpatient treatment
prior to authorizing an inpatient stay.
Inpatient treatment therefore is for adolescents when they need a highly structured, medically supervised atmosphere to begin their recovery from addiction.
The Inpatient Program begins with nursing assessment, physical exam by a physician, psychological evaluation by a licensed psychologist, and a thorough evaluation by an alcohol and chemical dependency counselor.
The program of inpatient treatment at Libertas includes:
- Group Therapy
- Individual Therapy
- Chemical Dependency Education
- 24 hour Nursing Care
- Activities Therapy and Recreation
- Routine Visits by a Physician
- Family Program
During treatment, family members are expected
to participate with the adolescent in the Family Program. This program, which includes
two days of education and group therapy, is vital to the success of the recovery process.
