Adolescent Inpatient Program
Developmental, environmental and emotional factors can sometimes
make it difficult for adolescents to cope with the world
around them. Some turn to drugs and alcohol in order to
cope with the turmoil they feel. The L. E. Phillips-Libertas
Center offers a quality adolescent treatment program to meet
the special needs of chemically dependent adolescents and their
families. The program includes evaluation, assessment, primary
treatment and referral to other resources when appropriate.
Initial assessment and evaluation determines the adolescent's needs
and the extent of the problem. If it
is determined the adolescent is in need of treatment, he or she may be
referred to primary inpatient treatment. Primary inpatient treatment is
based on the foundation of the medical model and of the Twelve Steps of
Alcoholics Anonymous. During this phase, all aspects of the youth's life
are examined through use of group therapy, peer interaction, one-to-one
sessions, spiritual counseling and recreational therapy. The adolescent
inpatient program is entirely separate from the adult program and is
continuously supervised. Evening and weekend programming have enhanced
the quality of this program.
A significant component of the Adolescent Inpatient Program is family
involvement. Family members are educated about chemical dependency
issues - specifically about how the disease
has affected them. Parents and family are helped and supported to
develop a more meaningful relationship with their child.
